I am thrilled that a special shoot with some favourite local wedding and vintage suppliers features as an 8 page spread in the Autumn/Winter edition of Northamptonshire’s Image Wedding Guide. It has been a while since I’ve had a chance to blog so this is a little longer than usual to share some of our fun with those of you who may not get to see the magazine.

Back in August during all the wonderful weather we spent a day indulging ourselves in recreating scenes from a wartime era when happily love conquered all for the more lucky couples of the time, including many of our grandparents. They are our inspiration.

Being parted from loved ones with little or no news during times of conflict is unimaginable as we barely now go more than a few hours without speaking. How emotional those farewells must have been!

This pair played the role of sweethearts perfectly for the day, entering the spirit of romance while having fun with the vintage theme. Amy provided the vintage clothing for these scenes from her amazing treasure trove of all things vintage in Joules Yard, Market Harborough, very worth a trip across the border to Leicestershire. From the very first time I met her I knew she would be perfect as our vintage bride, so full of enthusiasm and fun AND what is there not to love about her red hair so beautifully styled by Katie of Wedding Hair Experience

So who is our dashing soldier? Well Louis here was persuaded to play soldier and groom for the day by his partner Alison of Hobbits Vintage Creations whose unique handmade hair accessories feature throughout the shoot. Louis seemed to strike a pose so naturally and confessed once modelling for Levis no less! He seemed to cope quite well being the only guy involved in the day too ………

Have you visited the Northampton & Lamport Heritage Railway Station , just outside Chapel Brampton in Northamptonshire? It provided a wonderful setting for some of our scenes and is a great place to visit with several vintage events run through the year including a ‘Railway at War’ weekend in September. With gorgeous old suitcases loaned by Hobbits Vintage Creations to add to the atmosphere, we really were transported back to the Forties. I loved everything about this shoot but it was really special to be able to use so many genuine personal and vintage items such as my Grandad’s Soldiers book, cravat and cufflinks. Oh and Amy’s prayer scroll with tiny messages read by ladies each day praying for the safe return of their loved ones from the battlefields, wow what a privilege to read those ‘Golden Grain Promises’.

And then there were the landgirls, amazingly looking so cheerful in archived pictures and surely a huge comfort for each other while their men were away. Our landgirls Libby & Rebecca certainly had a giggle on shoot day – Becky unconvinced about her brown overalls but looking stunning regardless, and Libby just enjoying the chance to go back in time. Lou Lala’s make-up for all the girls throughout the day was just beautiful.

Of course we needed a happy ending with the safe return of our soldier……………………………………..

And followed with a wedding! The happy couple are pictured here at Joymead Gardens in Farthingstone, a quiet idyll with a war memorial and stone cloisters, available for hire for wedding receptions. Floral Art in Towcester provided flowers along with their artistic talent, creating this beautiful period styled bouquet.

Louis wears vintage clothing from Amy’s Vintage (and my Grandad’s cravat) and the lovely Amy herself is wearing the exquisite Queen Anne Lace dress by Claire Pettibone. Lisa, my partner in shoot crime and owner of Serendipity Brides has impeccable taste in designers and gowns, choosing a real gem for this vintage love story.

Hope you are enjoying the plot so far – there is a little more still to come, after all every wedding has to involve a bit of a party too! Our final chapter is set at Dodford Manor Exclusive Country House Barn Wedding Venue Northamptonshire , a place which must be on every Northamptonshire and Midlands Bride & Grooms’ wishlist. Everyone on the team is so welcoming and the venue itself is designed and maintained to perfection within it’s stunning rural setting. Thank-you for hosting our day, the lovely tranquillity was the perfect antidote to our crazy shoot schedule!

And from landgirls to landrovers with the arrival of the bride and groom. Well actually an authentic restored Willy’s Jeep so kindly loaned by locals Amanda & Tony Payne. Everybody LOVED this part of the shoot!

Every wedding needs a cake and we loved this simple tiered cake and cupcakes from the Vintage Bluebell Bakery yum! The scene was beautifully styled by multi talented landgirl Becky, aka Rebecca from I Adore Weddings with more floral décor from Floral Art

And finally a few bride and groom portraits midst the lovely Dodford Manor Exclusive Country House Barn Wedding Venue Northamptonshire landscape……………..

Memories of a fabulous day spent with some lovely lovely people from the world of weddings. We dedicate this post to all our servicemen and women past and present – real heroes!
